The "Name A Plow" contest is an exciting initiative by the NHDOT to engage the community in a fun and creative way. This is our first time engineering this project, and we invited residents across the state to submit and vote on unique names for our hardworking snowplows, highlighting the essential role they play in keeping our roads safe during winter. With hundreds of imaginative entries and enthusiastic participation, the contest captured the spirit of New Hampshire and beyond.

We received over 900 entries!

Over the course of 3 weeks and being featured on WMUR, we had over 900 entries from all over NH. It took some hard work and a lot back and forth to narrow the names down to our Top 15 Final Names.

And We Have a Winner! Well, Several Actually...

Our Premiere Season

This project was created to shine a spotlight on the vital role our snowplow drivers play in keeping our roads and turnpikes safe and our communities connected during winter's harshest conditions. By engaging the community in naming our hardworking snowplows, we aim to foster awareness of the dedication and effort that goes into maintaining our roadways, while also building a deeper appreciation for the men and women who operate these vehicles through snowstorms and icy challenges.

Why Participate?

Naming a snowplow is more than just fun – it’s a way to connect with the work our crews do every day to keep New Hampshire moving safely through snow, sleet, and ice. Each plow name represents the dedication of our snow fighters, who operate around the clock in challenging conditions to make sure you get where you need to go.

Spread the Word

We encourage families, schools, and local communities to participate. Whether you’re a teacher, a parent, or a snow lover, share this opportunity with others. Help us highlight the hard work of New Hampshire DOT’s winter crews and show support for the team that keeps us all safe on the road. Follow us on social media and use the hashtag #NameAPlowNH to join the conversation.

Join Us

This winter let’s show our snowplow drivers that their hard work is recognized and appreciated. Submit your ideas, rally your friends to vote, and watch as New Hampshire’s roads are cleared by snowplows with names that reflect the creativity and spirit of our communities. Thank you for helping us make winter a little more fun and memorable!

The Future

We are excited to expand this project and further strengthen our connection and with the community. We envision even greater involvement from local businesses, and organizations, and schools, to make this project a true collaborative effort. By engaging with students, we can inspire creativity and educate the next generation about the critical work that keeps our roads safe. Partnering with businesses offers opportunities to celebrate community spirit and highlight the dedication of our Winter Maintenance team.

If you’re interested in contributing to our future projects, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to us at info@dot.nh.gov to explore how we can work together.
