ADA Title II Program
The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibit a public entity from discriminating against qualified persons with disabilities in access to facilities and services that the public entity provides. These services, facilities or activities are related to the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of transportation systems and refer to public information, curb ramps, sidewalks, building facilities and similar.
Pursuant to the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 USC 794), NHDOT hereby gives assurance that no qualified disabled person shall, solely by reason of his disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination, including discrimination in employment, under any program or activity regardless of funding status.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, the NHDOT’s Title II ADA Coordinator works closely with division directors, planners, design and project engineers to ensure continued progress toward the completion of the NHDOT ADA Transition Plan.
The Title II ADA Coordinator conducts program area reviews to ensure that the required accessibility standards are applied in new construction and alterations of all transportation projects. The primary goal of this program is to ensure that pedestrian facilities and networks remain accessible for those with disabilities, to an extent provided by law.
