Drainage Work on Main Street in Newport

Periodic Traffic Delays and Temporary Restricted Parking will be required in April and May.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces drainage improvement work along the north bound side of Main Street in Newport will begin in early April and will require periodic traffic delays and temporary loss of parking.  Work is scheduled to begin sometime in April, weather permitting, and finish in May. Although the work will proceed as quickly as possible, work in urban areas must proceed cautiously due to buried utilities and other features that will have to be worked around.

Parking will be restricted in the work area throughout construction. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian traffic.

The drainage replacement will begin just south of Central Street and end at Sunapee Street. There is approximately 700 feet of pipe and approximately 5 existing catch basins to replace. Upgrades to the system include adding additional catch basins.

The Department of Transportation’s Highway Maintenance District 2, along with rented equipment, will be performing the work valued at approximately $115,000.
