Former Bridge in Webster for Sale

NHDOT seeking proposals for the adaptive reuse of the Clothespin bridge over the Blackwater River.

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is accepting electronic proposals for the purchase, relocation, and preservation of four steel beams from the historic Clothespin Bridge (No. 121/103), over Blackwater River in the town of Webster, NH.

To be considered, proposals must be submitted electronically to Bureau16@dot.nh.gov, and the subject line must read: “PROPOSAL FOR THE ADAPTIVE REUSE OF THE CLOTHESPIN BRIDGE,” and be received by 12:00 pm on July 9, 2025, and address all required information in the Request for Proposals.

Constructed in 1939, the Clothespin Bridge spanned the Blackwater River.  The crossing consisted of a 68’ long and 20’-7” wide single-span, steel stringer bridge with four 27” deep wide-flange beams with angle diaphragms.  The bridge had a non-original concrete deck with non-original W-beam guardrails.  The bridge was supported on stone abutments with concrete caps and wingwalls.

The Request for Proposals and other information including copies of location maps, inventory form, and draft historic restrictions, are available on the Department’s Disposition of Historic Bridges (Bridge Sales) webpage at: https://www.dot.nh.gov/historic-bridge-dispositions-bridges-sale

Questions and/or requests for additional information concerning this request for proposals should be addressed to Mr. Greg Goodrich, PE, Project Manager, VHB, at (603) 391-3992 or ggoodrich@vhb.com.  All questions and/or requests for additional information must be received by 3:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025.
