Nighttime Lane Closures on I-95 in Portsmouth
Traffic will be impacted on I-95 Southbound and I-95 Exit 7 Southbound On-Ramp.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will start night work in Portsmouth on I-95 Southbound on May 21, 2025 and May 22, 2025. This work will consist of the realignment of portable concrete barrier along the Southbound right shoulder from the Exit 7 off ramp (MM 15.6) to the Exit 5 off ramp (MM 14.0). The existing barrier will be shifted to allow the use of the Part Time Shoulder Lane for Memorial Day Weekend.
On May 27, 2025 and May 28, 2025, work will consist of shifting the barrier back to the Part Time Shoulder Lane and the closure of the I-95 Exit 7 southbound on ramp. Traffic will be detoured to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle from Submarine Way for I-95 southbound access. The southbound Part Time Shoulder Use Lane and I-95 Exit 7 southbound on ramp will be closed until June 20th, 2025.
Weather permitting, this work is scheduled to be done between the hours of 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM and will require the use of lane closures in the work zone. The right lane and shoulder of Southbound I-95 will be closed nightly from MM 15.6 to MM 14.0.
Message boards, uniformed officers, traffic control devices, and smart work zone devices will be used to notify the travelling public. A detour package will be in place to direct traffic on to I-95 southbound. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic related messages (text or email) from https://newengland511.org/.
This work is part of the construction of two sound abatement walls and privacy fence along I-95 in Portsmouth. Northeast Earth Mechanics, Inc. of Pittsfield, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $18.7 million project, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025.
