Right-of-Way

Welcome to the Bureau of Right-of-Way!

As a result of transportation improvement projects it is at times necessary for the state to acquire private property to expand or improve the existing transportation system. The DOT Bureau of Right-of-Way is responsible for the acquisition of property rights required for transportation projects. The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 govern the process the Department follows.

The Department realizes that property acquisition for transportation improvement projects can be seen as a trying experience. Our goal is to be sensitive to property owner and resident concerns, while providing fair and equitable compensation for property impacts. We have included information on this page that may be helpful; feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
